What will we work on?

This workshop is designed for those who already have some experience and would like to develop further their dollmaking skills. I wouldn’t discourage an absolute beginner but if you haven’t created a single doll in the past please contact me before enrolling so that we can decide how you could practice some of the necessary skills before we meet in Ommen.

During the workshops we will design a fully moveable body for an art doll so that she can enjoy walking in “The Secret Garden”. We will also create an haute couture dress from papier crépon to make her look and feel unique.

You will create a 14”/35 cm doll and learn how to:

• design a moodboard for your art doll

• create movable arms and legs (using joints),

• sculpture a proportional and harmonious silhouette,

• sculpt a head with a felting needle,

• create a harmonious face,

• create a fully rotating neck

Some elements (like skin for the head) will be pre-sewn by me in advance. However, all participants will receive the doll pattern to be able to create other dolls themselves after the course to develop their own style.

All participants will also receive a customized user manual in a wooden box (see photo below) which shows the creative process behind creating an art doll.

As part of the preparatory work, the participants will need to complete a 2h homework to prepare thebasis for the haute couture dress. In order to complete the homework, the participants will need one roll of papier crépon + one or two aquarelle colours (which are not included in the workshop’s materials).

All students will be given access to password protected area on Atelier Blasson website with additional hints ahead of the workshops.

When?

The workshop is very intense and runs for two full days: 19 - 20, May (Monday - Tuesday) from 9h to 18h (with one hour break for lunch).

Prices

To attend this workshop you will have to make TWO payments.

You need to register for the Waldorf Doll Retreat 2025 first. You can purchase your entry ticket (110 EUR) here(registrations will open on 16, November 2024).

Once you have the entry ticket, you can then book “The Secret Garden” workshop on Atelier Blasson website (registration link below). This second payment covers your full workshop and all materials (apart from the hair/wig) necessary to create the doll. However, it does not cover accommodation, transport to the venue or anything else. 

The price for the two day workshops is 360 EUR.

• All materials (apart from the hair/wig for which I will provide you with a list of possible suppliers) needed to make a doll are included in the price.

• You will need to bring the following tools to the class: multi-needle felting tool with at least 5-6 spare felting needles, sewing needles, long dollmaking needle, pins, scissors and a measuring tape.

• Upon payment, you will receive a confirmation email from me including details of the homework in preparation for the class, plus some other hints ahead of the workshop, including a list of suppliers (to purchase the hair/wig or any other extras, like matching shoes).

Terms and conditions

• The registrations for the “The Secret Garden” workshops are refundable until one month prior to the event.

• In case the EWDOR 2025 is cancelled due to force majeure, the participants will be reimbursed the total amount paid for the workshop.

• In case the workshop is cancelled by Atelier Blasson, the participants will be reimbursed the total amount paid for the workshop. No other costs (e.g. travel/accommodation) will be refunded.
